Vladimir Putin failed to take Kyiv in the promised three days and has failed to occupy any major Ukrainian city since 2022. But ahead of a two-day Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland, the Russian leader still demanded the full withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions and called on Ukraine to drop its ambitions to join Nato. Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky described it as a Hitler-like ultimatum. Speaking at the summit yesterday, Zelensky said Kyiv would hold peace talks with Russia “tomorrow” if Moscow pulls out of all Ukrainian territory. But Moscow, instead, is raising taxes to finance the fighting. More than 90 countries attended the summit (Russia was not invited), but China stayed away and key countries including India and Saudi Arabia withheld their signatures from the final statement. The war continues.
