The UK hosted a high-level international conference to find peace in Sudan, exactly two years into a war that has caused the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
The European Union pledged more than €522 million in aid while Britain announced an extra £120 million.
Attendees included France, Germany and representatives of the African Union, the United States and the United Nations.
Neither of the warring parties, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), was invited but activists criticised the presence of the United Arab Emirates which is accused of funding Sudan’s paramilitary group.
Meanwhile, the RSF launched new ground and aerial attacks in refugee camps close to El Fasher, the only big city in Darfur still held by Sudan’s army.
At least 300 people have been killed in the past few days, according to the UN.
Around 13 million people have been displaced and tens of thousands killed since the war began.
