Hunt continues for saboteur of gas pipeline

The main suspect in the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines in 2022 is a Ukrainian diver named only as Volodymyr Z, who lived in Poland and escaped after the explosions, Zeit Online reports. According to the investigation, Volodymyr was one of six passengers in a white Citroën travelling via Poland to Germany. They took a yacht called Andromeda to the detonation sites and destroyed three of the four strands of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines. Nord Stream 1 was the largest pipeline supplying Russian gas to Germany (Nord Stream 2 was not in use). The German Federal Prosecutor General sent the first European arrest warrant for Volodymyr Z to Poland in June. A spokeswoman for Poland’s prosecutor general said yesterday the suspect crossed the Polish-Ukrainian border in early July and had not been detained by Polish border guards because the Germans hadn’t yet entered his details in a database of wanted persons.
