Ukraine is ready to accept the US proposal of an “immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire”.
In return the White House said it would resume military assistance and intelligence sharing with Kyiv.
Compared with where Zelensky was twelve days ago, leaving the White House after a bitter exchange with Trump, this is a major turnaround and goes beyond the Ukrainian president’s own suggestion of a sea and air truce.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the ball was “now in Russia’s court” and he’s right.
There is still a huge gulf between Ukraine and Russia, which says it wants peace but continues to demand major territorial concessions, neutral status for Ukraine and the removal of Zelensky.
Now, for the first time in negotiations, Moscow’s commitment to these red lines will be truly tested.
Meanwhile, war continues. After the talks, Russia launched air attacks on Kyiv and Kharkiv.
