Russia exploits US intelligence gap to make gains in Kursk

Putin can thank Trump for helping to weaken Ukraine’s negotiating position.

Last week, Moscow launched a major offensive in Kursk after the US cut off intelligence sharing with Kyiv.

Russia has since recaptured several villages, bombed supply lines, and all but split Ukrainian forces in two.

Ukraine seized a chunk of the Russian region last summer in the hope it would provide leverage in negotiations, but two-thirds of the land has now been retaken and more is being lost by the day.

Deprived of US intelligence and Maxar satellite imagery, Ukraine is trying to hold onto land without tools that give the country advanced warning of Russian attacks.

Worse may be to come. This weekend, Elon Musk, an unelected private citizen, said the “entire frontline” in Ukraine would collapse if he turned off Starlink.

It’s hard to see what the US is doing as anything other than what it is: Trump tightening the screw so Zelensky capitulates.
