Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky swiftly congratulated Donald Trump on his election victory, adding he was looking forward to an “era of a strong United States of America” as well as continued bipartisan support for Ukraine.
Zelensky also referred to his ‘victory plan’ to beat Putin, which he discussed with Trump in September. In his post-election speech, Trump promised “to stop wars” – but his plan on Ukraine differs from Zelensky’s.
He told Fox News: “I would tell Zelensky: No more. You got to make a deal. I would tell Putin: If you don’t make a deal, we’re going to give them a lot. We’re going to give them more than they ever got, if we have to.”
Trump’s deal would involve Ukraine giving up its Russian-occupied territories, including Crimea and Donbas.
