Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was unprovoked

In light of recent public trolling by a prominent UK politician, a quick recap of recent Ukrainian history: 1991: Ukraine declares independence as Soviet Union collapses. 1994: Ukraine relinquishes nuclear weapons in return for guarantees of territorial independence signed by Russia, US and UK in Budapest Memorandum. 2004: rigged election won by pro-Moscow candidate, Viktor Yanukovych. 2005: re-run election after “Orange Revolution” won by pro-EU candidate, Viktor Yushchenko. 2010: Yanukovych makes a comeback. February 2014: Yanukovych flees to Moscow after pro-EU Maidan revolution. April 2014: Russian-backed troops seize Crimea and parts of Donbas. 2022: Russia invades. At no point since 1991 has Ukraine, the EU or Nato posed a threat to Russia, but the reverse is true, with devastating results.
