Acid in the air as Russia hits chemical plant

Residents of Ternopil in western Ukraine are being urged to stay indoors and close their windows because chlorine and hydrochloric acid concentrations in the air are four to 10 times above permitted levels following a Russian missile attack on a nearby chemical plant. Ternopil is far from the frontline and is being used as a relocation centre for internally displaced people. Some locals have already fled because of power cuts and the threat of missile attacks, underlining the fact that nowhere in Ukraine is safe, even if Hungarian authorities don’t seem to agree. They have adopted a new law restricting state support for Ukrainian refugees to those from areas "directly affected by military operations", mainly in the east.
