Emma Finucane became the seventh Welsh woman to win an Olympic gold medal after helping Team GB to win the women’s cycling team sprint, and she has still two more opportunities to add to her tally this week. The 21 year-old was described as being “on the verge of becoming a world superstar” by cycling royalty Victoria Pendleton, and started the sport after seeing Team GB excel in the 2012 Olympics while she was on a family holiday in France. Her family returned to France to cheer Finucane on in the Velodrome on Monday having driven from their hometown of Carmarthen in a hired camper van. Her packed schedule sees her compete in the keirin (see above) today and the women’s sprint on Friday.
