When Cristiano Ronaldo made his debut for Sporting CP at 17, one of his teammates had been playing since the 1980s. Such is the football longevity of Ronaldo, who turned 40 yesterday but has no plans to retire.
The Portuguese forward now plies his club trade in Saudi Arabia and has clocked up 100,000 minutes of professional football.
He still has more targets to hit: 1,000 career goals (he is 77 away); lifting the 2026 World Cup (a competition he’s never won); and lining up alongside his son (14 years old and in Al Nassr’s junior team).
One day his hyperbaric oxygen chambers and LED ‘recovery boots’ will no longer work and retirement will come for Ronaldo. But his name will live on if he has any say in the matter.
A recent video on his YouTube channel was titled “12 Iconic Moments That Will Make You Admire Cristiano Forever”.
