Abducted Ukrainian children naturalised as Russians

Dozens of abducted children have been naturalised as Russian citizens since the country’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

According to a new report from Yale’s Humanitarian Research Lab, 313 children have been forcibly taken to Russia from occupied Luhansk and Donetsk and one from Mariupol.

At least 67 have been naturalised, with many more adopted or placed under guardianship with Russian families. Children have been subjected to military propaganda and other forms of re-education.

Many of these details are already known; what’s most chilling is the systematic nature of Russia’s programme, about which details are emerging only gradually.
