McDonald’s becomes latest firm to rollback DEI

McDonald’s is the latest company to roll back DEI initiatives in the wake of a 2023 US Supreme Court decision that outlawed affirmative action at colleges.

On Monday the burger chain said it would retire specific diversity goals for senior leadership and is ending its programme that encourages diversity at suppliers.

Most McDonald’s initiatives were rolled out in 2021 after Black franchise owners brought a lawsuit alleging discrimination and a number of sexual harassment cases were filed by employees.

A “sex for shifts” scandal is currently the focus of a new class action brought by 700 workers. McDonald’s says its commitment to “inclusion” remains “steadfast”.
