Katherine Ryan’s sharp iconoclastic comedy proved more than just showboating when she was hailed as the first comedian to call out Russell Brand as a predator on Comedy Central’s Roast Battle in 2018. While much of her attack was cut from the final show, she voiced what most comedians knew but refused to say. In her first tour since Brand was exposed by The Sunday Times and C4’s Dispatches, she riffs on the moment, recalling the male cops and hacks who pressured her for other women’s names and the male celebrities who anxiously checked in to make sure she wasn’t outing them. Around this, she builds a gentler show, discussing her marriage and family with veiled affection but showing that her edge remains in a second half based on audience questions. As brave as ever.
