Amazon has paused production on the third season of Neil Gaiman’s Good Omens, a fantasy drama starring David Tennant and Michael Sheen. The move comes in the wake of five women making allegations of sexual assault and abuse against Gaiman, with the timeline of his alleged misconduct going back to 1986. Tortoise first reported the allegations in July in its podcast Master: the allegations against Neil Gaiman. Gaiman has strenuously denied any non-consensual sex or sexual abuse took place with any of the women. Amazon, Disney and Netflix have now all paused or cancelled Gaiman adaptations, although it is unclear if the decisions are directly linked to the sexual assault allegations.
Deadline first reported that there were “discussions about possible production changes” for Good Omens, which was renewed for its third and final season last December with Gaiman continuing as executive producer and writer.
The popular show, which first launched in 2019, is based on a 1990 novel by Gaiman and Terry Pratchett about an unlikely friendship between an angel (Sheen) and a demon (Tennant) who work together to prevent the apocalypse.
Last week, Disney paused its adaptation of Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book. In August, Netflix cancelled the second season of Dead Boy Detectives, which is based on Gaiman’s intellectual property.
A spokesperson for Amazon MGM Studios declined to comment.
