The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority has fined Crispin Odey £1.8 million and banned him from working in the City due to a “lack of integrity” in his conduct after he faced allegations of sexual harassment and assault.
The ruling comes nearly two years after Tortoise and the FT reported allegations made against Odey by 20 women.
The claims led to Odey being removed from his hedge fund, Odey Asset Management, which closed in October 2023.
The FCA found Odey “deliberately sought to frustrate” the firm’s disciplinary process – by firing executives and pausing an internal investigation – to protect his own interests.
He will challenge the FCA’s provisional decision by referring it to the Upper Tribunal court.
Odey has also launched a libel case against the FT and is fighting a personal injury claim in civil court filed by five of his alleged victims.
He denies any misconduct.
