Bezos takes liberties with the Washington Post’s opinion section

Jeff Bezos’ re-gearing of the Washington Post’s opinion pages towards “free markets” and “personal liberties” wasn’t wholly unexpected.

But former editor Marty Baron’s excoriation on the paper’s tragic decline is worth a read.

He puts his finger on why exactly Bezos (and Trump) are so interested in editorial direction. “Bezos himself has done personal liberties a disservice by cravenly yielding to a president who shows no respect for liberty,” he writes, arguing that Bezos has effectively sacrificed the Post for his other commercial interests.

Speaking of which, a day after the editorial changes were announced, news that Gayle King, Katy Perry and Lauren Sanchez will lead an all-female crewed Blue Origin mission made a big splash on social media, all but obscuring the events of the day before.

Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In provided plenty of advice about how to hold people’s attention. But what do you do when attention is in deficit?
