A cat named Biscuit was rescued by Dublin firefighters equipped with a special pet oxygen mask.
In January Biscuit was found unconscious in a smoke-filled home in Ballyfermot. Firefighters placed the mask over Biscuit’s snout, and after 10 minutes she woke up and began snuggling her owner.
Peta, the animal rights group, has since given the crew an award for saving Biscuit, whose rescue is the latest success story in Dublin Fire Brigade’s pet oxygen mask trial.
Last year the service used one of the masks to revive a dog pulled from a canal. Pet oxygen mask kits come with different sized cones, leads and muzzles.
The smallest can be used on snakes and mice. They are used by fire services in the UK too.
Essex fire service, which has the masks on all its engines, has a video on its YouTube channel showing them in action.
