Trump hints Ukraine minerals deal could be close

Trump’s grand pivot to Moscow continued with an epochal vote at the UN in which Russia and China backed a US resolution calling for peace in Ukraine without blaming Russia for the war or mentioning Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

A cold war equivalent might have been a US-sponsored resolution calmly noting Brezhnev’s crushing of the Prague Spring.

In DC, Trump hinted Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky could sign a revised minerals deal as soon as this week.

In Moscow, Putin said a ceasefire could mean deals for US companies in Russian-occupied Ukraine as well.

Ukraine’s reserves of rare earths and critical minerals could be worth more than $11 trillion even though few of them have been exploited.

Has someone with an interest in the EVs that need these materials won the president‘s ear?

A veteran of Putin’s early days in St Petersburg got in touch to say the Trump pivot was inevitable the moment he won the election: “It’s always about the money in the end.”
