A former British paratrooper will stand trial for two murders and five attempted murders on Bloody Sunday more than 50 years ago.
Last week’s decision maintains anonymity for Soldier F, accused of murdering William McKinney and James Wray on 30 January 1972 in Derry/Londonderry.
He denies the charges.
McKinney and Wray were among the 13 fatally shot (another 15 were wounded) when members of the Parachute Regiment opened fire on a civil rights demonstration.
The prosecution of Soldier F has faced several delays.
In 2019 the Public Prosecution Service said it had enough evidence to prosecute Soldier F for the murders, but in 2021 the case was dropped after the collapse of a separate trial involving two other veterans accused of a Troubles-era killing.
In 2022 the Court of Appeal overturned the PPS’s decision not to prosecute Soldier F after a legal challenge brought by the family of one of the victims.
The trial is due to begin in September.
