An army of AI-generated grandmothers is outfoxing scam callers by wasting their time, keeping them away from real people.
Daisy, O2’s scam-fighting AI bot, trolls fraudsters by chatting about knitting patterns and scone recipes.
It was trained with the help of scambaiter Jim Browning, who has made a successful YouTube channel out of fooling fraudsters.
To lure in the con artists, Daisy’s phone number was planted on online lists used by scammers to find victims.
Since November, O2’s new so-called “head of scammer relations” has trolled over 1,000 would-be scammers and has kept them on the line for as long as 40 minutes at a time.
Daisy has noticed a few trends: often scammers read off scripts, use high-pressure tactics and will get cross if they’re not getting what they want.
It’s worth watching Daisy wind them up.
