Jay-Z has strongly denied allegations that he raped a 13-year-old girl with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000, labelling them a “blackmail attempt”.
In a post on X, the rapper said lawyer Tony Buzbee issued a “demand letter” asking him to settle a civil claim from an anonymous accuser.
The claim, originally filed in October, alleged that Combs and an unnamed male celebrity raped the then-teenager after a drink made her “feel woozy and lightheaded”.
It was refiled on Sunday identifying Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, as the male celebrity. The suit adds that, before being named, Jay-Z replied to Buzbee’s request for mediation with a “frivolous” lawsuit and harassment of Buzbee, Jane Doe, their families and associates.
Three weeks ago Buzbee mentioned the case in a post on X, saying his initial letter made no demand for money. The lawyer claims to represent 120 accusers who allege misconduct at the hands of Combs.
