Hoax bomb threats that appeared to originate from Russian email domains were directed at Democratic strongholds in battleground states, the FBI said yesterday.
Five voting locations in Fulton County, Georgia were briefly evacuated as authorities responded to dozens of threats. Hoax threats were also reported in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, where voting hours had to be extended in Clearfield County.
Several unsubstantiated threats were made against four polling locations in Navajo County, Arizona. “Vladimir Putin is being a prick,” said Adrian Fontes, the Arizona secretary of state.
The Russian Embassy in Washington said Russia does “not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, including the United States”.
On Monday, Germany’s foreign minister condemned a “massive, coordinated attempt” to influence Moldovan’s voting abroad, which included bomb threats against polling stations in Germany and the UK.
