Hispanic voters appear to swing behind Donald Trump

Preliminary results from a national exit poll conducted by Edison Research show that Trump won 45 per cent of Hispanic voters nationwide, up an astonishing 13 per cent from 2020.

Despite comments from a comedian at his Madison Square rally likening Puerto Rico to “garbage”, Trump picked up a number of Hispanic-heavy counties.

The first indication came from Osceola county in Florida, which has a large Puerto Rican population and which Biden won in 2020 with 56 per cent of the vote.

Last night, Trump clinched it. Polls taken before election day show Hispanic voters are most likely to have concerns about the economy and immigration – two issues that have girded Trump’s campaign.

The exit poll surveyed 16,604 voters from around the US so is hardly a complete picture, but the tip towards Trump in Florida is clearly a sign.
