Mahmoud Wadi’s family have been living on the grounds of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in central Gaza for months. On Monday, they awoke to find flames sweeping through tents after an Israeli strike on the facility – he told the NYT it was the seventh strike on the compound he’s witnessed, describing bodies “scorched and black”. Four people were killed and dozens injured. Israel said it was targeting a Hamas command centre in the complex. A separate attack in Gaza on Sunday hit a school-turned-shelter. Israel is also expanding its campaign across Lebanon: the Lebanese Red Cross says at least 21 people were killed yesterday in a strike on a Christian-majority village in the north of the country, while in south Lebanon Israel’s attacks on UN peacekeepers have been condemned by the EU.
