Jodie Grinham was born with no fingers and half a thumb on her left hand, and a short left arm, and will compete in her second Paralympics in archery after winning silver at Rio 2016. This time, she’s competing while seven months pregnant. She uses a modified bow that she developed with her father, and was the first person with a similar disability known to have attempted archery. Her pregnancy has led to alterations in her training, having to work on changes to her balance, getting used to the pull on her pelvis from both baby and quiver, and her coach has even stimulated a movement to act like a baby’s kick if it happens when she’s in the draw position of her shot. “My team have joked a few times that my waters could just break on the podium. That would be quite something,” she told the Athletic.
