Hollywood starlet Zoe Kravitz’s first turn as director is ambitious, for sure. With Blink Twice, she adds a strong feminist spin to the laundry list of recent eat-the-rich thrillers. Channing Tatum’s natural charm shines through in his performance as repentant bad-boy tech billionaire Slater King. But Naomi Ackie is the real stand-out here, giving a mesmerising performance as a fanatic who gets the chance of a lifetime to see how the other half lives. The resulting chemistry between Ackie and Tatum is almost strong enough to make up for a meandering tone and pacing that can be confusing and leaves the audience wanting more. The striking cinematography, fun disco soundtrack and (genuinely funny) stellar performances from its ensemble cast makes for an enjoyable, summer romp and a strong debut from Kravitz.
