At London 2012, Anthony Joshua won gold in super heavyweight boxing before turning pro and becoming a superstar. Four years later, Delicious Orie saw Joshua fight on Sky Sports and vowed to emulate him. Born in Moscow to a Russian mother and Nigerian father, Orie moved to Britain when he was seven after his dad had faced violent racism. Orie initially wanted to play basketball but turned to boxing after watching Joshua, who also took up the sport at 18 and also has Nigerian heritage. Orie is second seed in the men’s super heavyweight category in Paris. This puts the British boxer on course to go toe to toe with reigning champion Bakhodir Jalolov, the 6’7” pugilist known as the Big Uzbek. Orie listens to Abba before getting in the ring and clearly isn’t a fan of cliches. His favourite movie isn’t Rocky or Creed. It’s Chicken Run.
