As chief executive of the New Economics Foundation, Miatta Fahnbulleh already had a reputation as an eloquent and polished presence on the centre-left before this campaign. She’s now standing as Labour’s candidate for the super-safe seat of Camberwell and Peckham, which may propel her further into the limelight – and fast-track her into a ministerial role. Having managed to beat the Starmerite candidate in Labour’s rigid candidate selection process, she’s independently minded while also being very much of the soft-left. One way or another Fahnbullah should stand out among the many new faces entering parliament next month.
