On Thursday, the US Supreme Court unanimously rejected a bid to restrict access to a widely used abortion drug, mifepristone. The justices found that the anti-abortion health professionals who brought the challenge – who do not prescribe or use mifepristone – lacked the legal standing to sue. America’s Food and Drug Administration first approved the pill in 2000, and in 2016 and 2021 made it easier to obtain, including by post. Legal focus on the drug has increased since the Supreme Court ended guaranteed access to abortion in the US in 2022. Erin Hawley, who represented the anti-abortion group, noted that the court left room for three conservative states to continue legal action. “We still have work to do,” she said.
