UK election 2024: Far-right memes - could it be true?

Every day between now and the election, Tortoise's Alexi Mostrous will examine a claim from the campaign trail. Some will be outlandish, some believable. Some might even be true.

Keir Starmer wearing an Islamic thawb decked out in LGBTQ colours. Keir Starmer surrounded by people of colour holding up Labour placards. A white WW2 soldier, head hanging in sorrow, facing thousands of Muslims bending in prayer. Just three of the racist AI images generated during this election campaign and publicised on social media accounts belonging to popular public figures like Darren Grimes, the GB news presenter. Far-right memes are big business in 2024, attracting tens of thousands of reposts. But at least Tommy Robinson, the convicted criminal, hasn’t got the hang of them. An AI image posted on his Twitter page during the D-Day anniversary showed dozens of British soldiers wading bravely… into the sea.
