Akhmed Yakoob is a suave solicitor with nearly 200,000 TikTok followers. His Youtube channel features videos titled “Real lawyer explains how he made Millions!” and “5 simple tips to get RICH!”. He’s also trying to unseat Labour in Birmingham Ladywood. Labour’s Shabana Mahmood has a huge majority, but Yakoob may give her a run for her money. Yakoob got 20 per cent of the vote in the West Midlands mayoral election and performed particularly strongly in Ladywood. Despite running as an independent, Yakoob has been endorsed by Workers Party leader George Galloway for his stance on Palestine. All of Yakoob’s leaflets carry the words: “For Gaza.” In a constituency with a large Muslim population, that may pay dividends.
