Every day between now and the election, Tortoise’s Alexi Mostrous will examine a claim from the campaign trail. Some will be outlandish, some believable. Some might even be true.
On Tuesday in Clacton a young woman threw a milkshake in Nigel Farage’s face. The woman, who was later arrested, bore a passing resemblance to Emily Hewertson, a staffer for a Tory MP. After dozens of social media posts, including one by LBC presenter Shelagh Fogarty, suggested that #milkshake might have been staged by Hewertson in order to boost publicity for Farage, she was forced to publicly deny it. Hewertson took the conspiracy in her stride though, posting a picture of a banana milkshake with the caption: “Nice Tuesday Night Treat.” Victoria Thomas Bowen, 25, the alleged culprit, was charged yesterday with assault by beating and criminal damage.
