In September 2023, Daisy Cooper, deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats, compared her mindset going into a general election to that of her brother – a Team GB ironman triathlete – on competition day. Maybe it’s that competitive spirit which prompted her to commandeer a boat full of volunteers holding LibDem placards that chugged behind Rishi Sunak during an event at Henley’s Leander Club. Cooper is also the party spokesperson for Health & Social Care and a candidate for the St Albans constituency, which she won in 2019. The latest YouGov MRP poll projects she will safely keep the seat. The day before the election, Cooper was named the “Pub Parliamentarian of the Year” by the APPG for Beer.
