Britain’s oldest fly fishing club asked to admit female members

Earlier this month the Garrick Club reversed a 200-year-old policy and voted to allow women to join its membership. Campaigners now have London’s 15 remaining men-only clubs in their sights. An open letter signed by over 30 activists and lawyers including Dr Ann Olivarius KC, Jolyon Maugham KC and former minister Caroline Nokes is calling on the other gentlemen’s clubs to change their policies. That includes the 140-year-old Flyfishers’ Club, whose patron is King Charles III, which is facing pressure from prominent female anglers to allow them to join in reaction to the Garrick’s rule change.
