A peer nominated by Boris Johnson in his resignation honours list is facing a three-week suspension for “bullying and harassment” less than a year after his elevation. On Friday Lord (Kulveer) Ranger resigned the Conservative whip after an investigation found he had “acted aggressively, shouting and swearing” in one of parliament’s bars. He was “visibly drunk” and had made “inappropriate comments” to a group of people, the report found. The Lords’ Conduct Committee recommended that Ranger be suspended from the House of Lords for three weeks and denied access to its bars for 12 months. Ranger became a close ally of Johnson during his time as London mayor, when Ranger worked on transport policy. In the honours list documents Ranger was named as having been a “special adviser to the UK Government on digital strategy”. As Tortoise revealed at the time, he did not appear in Cabinet Office documents, and sources there had no recollection of him. It later transpired that he had met a special adviser.
