The US Supreme Court seems likely to delay Donald Trump's trial for attempting to overturn the result of the last presidential election until after the next one. The court heard arguments last Friday from Trump's lawyers, who contend he's immune from prosecution for anything he did as president – and indeed would be even if he ordered Seal Team Six to assassinate a rival. The justices won't rule for a while and don't seem inclined to swallow Trump's argument whole. But their questioning indicated that at least five of the six conservatives want to suggest that presidents should be immune from prosecution for most public acts while in office, even if not for private ones. Observers worry that if given an inch, Trump will take a mile in his quest for retribution against his enemies. Either way, the delay is what he wanted most and unless the court surprises everyone with a quick, clean declaration that that no one is above the law, he's got it.
