Missing husband caught in the web

It took less than 24 hours for online sleuths to track down a man who had allegedly been missing for a year. On Saturday, a Massachusetts woman called Ashley McGuire took to social media to ask for information about her husband Charles Withers, a chef originally from the UK. She claimed he’d disappeared without a trace, leaving her to look after their first child and give birth to their second alone. She wanted a divorce. The internet rapidly narrowed his location down to two Texas towns thousands of miles away, where women said they had matched with him on dating apps. Internet users then found a video of Withers, apparently going by the name of Charlie, posted incidentally by the wife of the Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan. The most popular TikTok video about the saga was viewed nearly 5 million times. Withers is back in touch with his wife.
