Hind Rajab’s calls for help heard worldwide — but it’s too late

Hind Rajab, aged 6, was found dead in Gaza almost two weeks after her family’s car reportedly encountered Israeli tanks while attempting to flee Gaza City on 29 January. Hiding among the bodies of six relatives, she pleaded with the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) to rescue her. Her pleas cut out amid the sound of gunfire. On Saturday, two paramedics who had been trying to reach Hind, were found dead inside an ambulance that was destroyed by Israeli shelling “just a few metres” from the family’s car, despite “prior coordination to allow the ambulance” through, the PRCS said. Hind’s body was found at the same time. Hind’s calls for help have now been heard all around the world. Online, images of Hind have spread on TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and X. Her name has also been heard in the UK House of Lords. On Tuesday, the UK Foreign Secretary said her story is “completely tragic” and said the UK had challenged Israel over incidents in Gaza.
