On Wednesday a shipment of medicine entered Gaza, as part of a deal that will provide three months’ worth of medication for 45 Israeli hostages and more medicine and humanitarian aid to thousands of Palestinians. It’s the first time Israel and Hamas have agreed on something since last November, when both sides took part in a ceasefire in exchange for the release of around 100 Israeli hostages and dozens of Palestinians held in Israeli jails. Qatar and France helped broker the medication agreement, with Majed al-Ansari, Qatar’s foreign ministry spokesman, announcing last night that the shipment had entered Gaza. A Hamas official said that for every box of medicine provided for the hostages, 1,000 boxes would be sent for Palestinians. More than 24,000 Palestinians have been killed since the 7 October terrorist attacks, which killed 1,200 Israelis.
