The godfather of Atlanta rap is back with his first solo album in nearly a decade. As half of the rap duo Run the Jewels, Killer Mike has consistently delivered punchy, lyrical, politically driven albums that have seen him secure the tough overlap of critical acclaim and hometown respect. Michael is no step away from his past greatness. But it is a step away from his trademark agit-rap style. With a softer musical tone – but no less soft on the anti-state message – the LP utilises gospel choirs, spoken word track-intros and melodic undertones all in service of one central theme: when you’re born poor and black, America will never let you forget it.
