England’s rivers are the least healthy in Europe, with pollution from sewage, roads and agriculture often flowing into them unmeasured and unchecked. As a result, their waters are often off-limits to humans and harmful for fish and animal species. Water companies, farmers, government and the Environment Agency all have a role to play in cleaning them up. Where, ultimately, does the buck stop?
