Tortoise Lates: The beautiful game
An evening of conversation, ideas and entertainment, new and exclusively for Tortoise members.
A night to celebrate the players, the fans and the story of English football.
English football means so much to so many – and the relationship England has with its national team is an emotional one. It’s been a 150 year rollercoaster of a love affair, with moments of joy, disappointment, anger, pride, heartbreak and euphoria. Over that time, the game has changed a lot – and so have the fans. Recently the game has attracted more female fans than ever, and a new generation of social media-savvy players are more connected and accessible to fans than ever before – while maintaining their A-list celebrity status. Who is the modern football fan, and has there ever been a better time to be one? Have initiatives to improve inclusivity on the pitch been reflected in the fanbase, and how can we make sure that big money doesn’t spoil the magic of being a fan?
