Understaffed, underfunded and with privatisation creeping in, the NHS is at breaking point – so argues Dr Julia Patterson in her latest book Critical: Why the NHS is being betrayed and how we can fight for it.
Turning 75 in July, the NHS has long been the bedrock of British society, but in recent times, there has been huge strain on the service and those who work within it. Even before the Covid-19 pandemic there were high rates of suicide among healthcare professionals, long waiting times for patient care and shortages of staff.
As an NHS campaigner and founder of a non-profit campaign group EveryDoctor and with first-hand insight into the difficulties faced by the NHS and practitioners, Dr Patterson sets out how we got into this position and lays out how we can come together to find a solution.
In this ThinkIn, Dr Patterson will be discussing the solutions laid out in her book, her work at EveryDoctor and the challenges of being an NHS campaigner.
