Robert Maxwell fled the Nazis, became a decorated WW2 veteran, then a Labour MP and lauded media and publishing tycoon. It was only when his lifeless body was found in the water close to his yacht in 1991 that the extent of his corruption and greed was discovered. His daughter Ghislaine was 30 years old when her father died. As of 2020, she is incarcerated in the US facing charges for trafficking young girls for her former boyfriend, sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. She has been repeatedly denied bail.
John Preston, author of A Very English Scandal, has retold the life and death of Robert Maxwell in his new book Fall. Join us for a ThinkIn in which we’ll revisit the psychodrama of the Maxwell family, and consider the lessons it holds about toxic power in the 21st century.
