There’s a failure of global leadership. Not just of coordination, but organisation. The UN and EU are stumbling and key countries – Russia, China and the US – reject cooperation except on their own terms. So there’s a need to convene the people who are thinking about global problems: how to make a concerted effort to deal with vaccines or travel restrictions; how to restart economies and supply chains; the future of money and fair dealing online. Tortoise, together with partners, will host a global digital summit to examine and plot what the international community needs to be doing now and what a post-Covid19 world should look like.
Sessions include:
Healthcare justice – develop and distribute vaccines jointly and fairly so that everyone who needs them gets them
Clean travel – reopen the world without putting people or the planet at ever greater risk
Good information – put citizens in control of big data, not the other way around
The deal on debt – when companies and developing economies are drowning in it, restructure it or write it off
Secure trade – restore faith in the global market with fairness and transparency, not tariffs
Food security – act collectively on climate change, because the alternative is mass-scale drought and famine
