Dame Sharon White became the John Lewis Partnership’s sixth Chairman in February 2020. Sharon joined from Ofcom, the UK’s communications regulator, where she served as Chief Executive for almost five years. Before that, she was Second Permanent Secretary at the Treasury, responsible for overseeing the public finances and held board level positions at the Ministry of Justice as well as the Department for International Development. Sharon has also worked as an adviser at the Prime Minister’s Policy Unit and in Washington DC as a senior economist at the World Bank.
Dame White will be in conversation with James Harding, Tortoise editor and co-founder, about the recovery from Covid-19, sustainable and ethical business, the future of retail and how it feels to take on such a well-loved brand at such a challenging time.
