Beyond tobacco: is the end of cigarettes nigh?

Beyond tobacco: is the end of cigarettes nigh?

This event is exclusive to Friends of Tortoise

This is a newsroom ThinkIn. In-person and digital-only tickets are available.

Is a world without tobacco a real possibility? Almost a fifth of the world’s population smoke, and there are many others who feel strongly that smoking should be banned outright. But how can you turn off an industry worth $818billion? What happens to the countries and communities dependent on tobacco crops and cigarette manufacture if we all quit the habit? Is it fair to force millions of people who’ve developed an addiction to give up by law? Are the big tobacco companies doing enough to transition to ‘healthier’ alternatives, and can we trust them tobacco tell the truth about what these alternatives are doing to our bodies?
