AI & Us: Data rules
Tuesday 7 January, 18:30 – 19:30
Artificial intelligence could save your life - or cost you your job. Machine learning is disrupting industries from healthcare to the military. But what are the rules governing AI and us, the human beings who it is supposed to serve? How do we make sure that AI is used for good and not abused by grasping corporates or authoritarian governments? How do we safeguard our data privacy while stoking AI innovation that could change our lives for the better? The first of three ThinkIns around AI, this session will examine what this new technology means...to us.
A ThinkIn with Michael Palin – North Korea and forbidden places
Monday 13 January, 18:30 – 19:30
Veteran traveller and Monty Python legend Michael Palin recently travelled to North Korea. His access to the notoriously secretive country took three years to arrange and was monitored throughout. He joins Tortoise to share his observations the trip - and a life filled with travel and comedy.
Decolonising museums and galleries
Wednesday 15 January, 18:30 – 19:30
Britain's arts and heritage sectors have endeavoured to open the doors to diversity and inclusion in recent times. What does ‘decolonisation’ actually involve and how far have they come and how much further is left to go? This discussion will take in debates around quotas, diversity schemes, repatriation of objects and overcoming structural inequality to create a richer, broader arts and heritage landscape in terms of its workforce and audiences.
We just need a few personal details to get you set up. It’s a two minute job, we promise. Use the code friend50.

What our members are saying
I can already highly recommend @Tortoise. It’s the news equivalent of dipping your head in a cool, glacier-fresh stream on a scorching-hot day.
Went to my first @Tortoise ThinkIn last night on gender. A really fun eve – full of lively comment & a totally inclusive atmosphere. Not at all like a traditional panel event.
