Why this story?

Six months into this pandemic it would be a relief to be putting it behind us. Instead, from focusing on who dies from Covid-19 doctors are turning to the question of how to live with it as a chronic condition.

Heart damage is among the cruellest symptoms of Long Covid. It seems to be an effect of battling the initial infection, and a cause of other symptoms including shortness of breath and extreme fatigue. Will it repair itself? It’s too soon to know, as Ella Hill found out. Giles Whittell, editor.
