A man wearing a blue shirt and glasses lets out a quick breath as he carries an Ikea bag up a flight of stairs. Inside his flat, he pulls out something wrapped in bubble wrap and stuffed into a pillow case. The video clip, from Dutch broadcaster NOS, shows art detective Arthur Brand pulling out a picture – “The Parsonage Garden at Nuenen in Spring” by Vincent van Gogh, reportedly worth up to €6 million, which was stolen from a Dutch museum in March 2020. The 1884 work was handed over by a tipster after it became “a headache for everybody,” Brand told the Times – the people involved in the theft have already been convicted and possessing the painting risked a multi-million euro fine. The painting has been handed over to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam for minor repairs and will then return to its original home, the Groninger Museum.
